Carrie's Candle

Stealing the Car...

Carolyn was many things to many people, and still is. To me, she was my partner in crime. Kieran, Carolyn and I were going to have a sleepover one night at Carolyn's. Mrs. O'Mara picked me up and took us to Osco to get as many beauty supplies as we could afford. Our main focus was going to be Carolyn's eyebrows, because they needed some work. So we went back to Carolyn's house, and I suggested we should get a movie before Kieran came. Carolyn agreed, and I could just see wheels turning in her head, but she wouldn't tell me what she was thinking. So we leave her house, and I'm assuming that we are going to walk, and the second we are out the door, she whispers to me, "We're not walking!" And we ran out to the back of her house to snag the car. And we drove away into the night, absolutely blasting, "If My Heart Had Wings," by Faith Hill. We both agreed that it needed to be loud enough so we couldn't hear each other's, or our own voices. And so we went, and we parked 4 blocks away from the video store, just in case one of her parent's should drive by. We got a movie, I couldn't tell you which one for the life of me, and headed back to Carolyn's. (Still blasting the music, of course.) As Carolyn pulled into the back of her house, her Dad comes out of the back door, and says, "Carolyn did you take the car?!" And with the guiltiest look I have ever seen on anyone, she says, "NO! Of course not!" Not the best liar I've ever known in my life. Well, after lying about three times, straight to both of her parent's faces, she finally admitted to it. The sleepover was cancelled, but we agreed it had been well worth it.

And in agreement with Bridget, everytime I got in the car with Carrie behind the wheel, it was ALWAYS an adventure.
