Carrie's Candle

A Little Lunch

10 November 2004

Claire Wuellner

We were having lunch together in Old Orchard. It was so long ago I can't remember where we were. Sitting by a window I think. We discussed boys and girls and gossiped and had a good time. It was a satisfying talk. We laid out our high school problems and felt some closure to arguments and issues. Carrie was pleased. I was pleased. Somehow it felt like something had been accomplished over a bowl of soup. She grinned and said with gusto, "Wouldn't the world be perfect if it was filled with Carries and Claires?"

I remember feeling privileged. It was special to be included with Carrie in that statement. I wrote it down in the notebook I carry everywhere with me. Everytime I see it, I remember her pride and pleasure with our excellence.

Miss you, love.
